Mr. Wilbert Ridley age 70 of Covington, Ga. (Formerly) of Dyersburg died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Ga. U. S. Marine Corp. Veteran of Vietnam War. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 11:00a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church 605 Cheatman St. Dyersburg, TN. with Pastor Robert Lawrence officiating. Burial will be held in Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Millsfield Pallbearers will be family and friends. Wilbert Ridley was born on October 28,1947 in the Hopewell Community to the union of Charlie Ridley and Hattie (Smith) Ridley. Wilbert attended Future City Elementary School, he graduated from Bruce High School in 1965. Wilbert accepted a life in Christ at an early age and joined Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church. There he served as a dutiful and faithful member until he joined the United States Marine Corp., where he served four years, including a tour in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Wilbert relocated to Milwaukee, WI. in 1969 and worked for the Ebony Club and he was a member of the Ebony Knights. In 1986 Wilbert returned to Dyersburg, TN. and began working as a faithful member at Grace Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Treasurer. Wilbert was an active member in community serving as Treasurer of Bruce Alumni Association, Les Gentile Hommes, a Legionnaire, and VFW member. Leaving to cherish his memory is one brother, J.B. (Johnnie) Ridley, one sister, Anne M. Oldham both of Milwaukee, WI., He was the youngest of ten children; seven preceded him in death- Martha Williams, Brooklyn, NY., Thomas Ridley (Minnie)- Cleveland, OH., Mildred Davis-Milwaukee, WI., Charles Ridley, (Gloria)-Brooklyn, NY., Roy Ridley (Billie)- Tucson, AZ., and Geneva Watson (Robert)- Milwaukee, WI., Hattie L.
