Mary Francis
Carter Woods
Aug 28, 1938 — May 10, 2020
Las Vegas
Mary Francis Carter Woods died May 10,2020 in Las Vegas, NV. Arrangements are entrusted to McCreight Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will be held Saturday, September 4,2021 in Love Cemetery in Halls, Tennessee. Mary was born August 28, 1938 in Halls, Tennessee to the late Anderson Carter, Jr. and Edna Beatrice Morton Carter. Mary was strong in her faith from an early age because her mother made sure of it. She was a member at St. Mark's Baptist Church in Gates, Tennessee where her family attended for years. Mary believed in having an education. She strived to accomplish that and she did. She then attended Tennessee state College. Mary decided to move to Detroit in 1958 where she had many great job opportunities. She ended up at General Electric as a Personal Secretary, where she lived her life and retired. After moving to Detroit, Mary met Joseph Stanford, and she had her son Kevin Carter who was Mary's heart. Years later, Mary met her husband Robert Dale Woods who preceded her in death. She was married in 1979 to Robert, they were married for 37 years where they resided in Detroit. In 2014, Mary went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mary was full of life and had the kindest heart. She loved her son beyond words, and her family in Tennessee as well as the family farm. She loved living in Detroit, but always wished to move back to the farm. Gardening and keeping her house completely covered in flowers was always her main objective. She started as soon as it got warm enough to do it. Mary's laughter was a source of joy! kindness, love, gentleness, and compassion were always in her smile. Her words were always warm and sincere. She would dance anytime and anywhere. On May 10,2020 the Lord sent his angels to take Mary home to receive her eternal rest. Her husband Robert Woods; her two brothers, Anderson Carter, III and Galion Carter, along with her parents, met her in the kingdom as they all preceded her in death. Mary will be missed by many. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Tanya Carter of Las Vegas, Nevada; her granddaughter, Kiara Carter; her two grandsons, Cody Miller and Christopher (Lauren) Conway; her stepdaughter, Diane Turner of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; Janice, Brenda, Andrea, Anisa, Ghitana (Leon), all of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dana and Rory (Pam), of Jackson, Tennessee and their children, granddaughter, and great grandchildren; her brother, William Harold Carter of Halls, Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Legacy of Life, Every Life is worth Remembering. McCreight Funeral Home is honored to serve the Carter/Woods family.
