Mr. James Alvin "Cowboy" Mosley Sr. age 75 of Dyersburg, TN died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at The Highlands in Dyersburg. Arrangement are entrusted to McCreight Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 1:00p.m.-2:55p.m at Dyersburg Middle School Gymnasium. Funeral service will follow at 3:00p.m. with Pastor James Mosley Jr. officiating. Burial will be held in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dyersburg. Pallbearers will be  Eric T. James Alvin Mosley Sr. "Cowboy" was born January 1, 1943 in Finley, TN to the late Clay Mosley Sr. and the late Geneva Haymon Mosley. He accepted Christ into his life at an early age on December 25, 1965 where he joined Middle City / New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. He later rededicated his life to the Lord and became a member of Truth In Love Kingdom Fellowship in December, 2010 under the leadership of his son, Pastor James Alvin Mosley, Jr. where he faithfully served as head usher. "Cowboy" was truly a faithful servant of the Lord until the time his health began to fail him.

"Cowboy" as he was so affectionately called was not only the hardest working man witnessed by many but he also always managed to juggle multiple jobs at one time. He worked for Myers Piano Company for many years, he worked for Colonial Rubber 20 plus years, during that time he never missed one day, he was a lifetime farmer and lawncare service provider, and he spent 52 years of his life serving the Dyersburg / Dyer County school systems as a bus driver where he is also remembered for the football and basketball trips that he drove so many students and athletes to and from games and events. It was in these years where "Cowboy" touched so many lives. Everybody was somebody to him. He would often say, "You can't treat everybody the same but you've got to treat everybody right."

James "Cowboy" Mosley was a pillar of wisdom, instruction, love and hard work for his family. All who met him were witnesses of his affectionate humor and famed work ethic. "Cowboy" was truly and literally a man of many hats. Of all the hats he wore, leaving a nugget of wisdom and love in every person's life he came in contact with was the hat he wore most and best. "Cowboy" was a rarity, a jewel of this community. What may come from his mouth was never known but it was guaranteed to make you pause and think, and more than likely cause a giggle. "Cowboy" never met a stranger and he had a way of making everyone feel special. It was this attribute that caused everyone to know that he was a special man indeed. "Cowboy" lived by this truth and he instilled it into his family… "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold." Proverbs 22:1

"Cowboy" was preceded in death by his father, Clay Mosley Sr., his mother, Geneva Mosley Emery, two brothers; Clay Mosley Jr. and Lewis Tipton. He leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving wife, Alice Frances Mosley; (7) daughters, Pamela Matthews (Bobby), Angela Henderson (John), Geneva Lanier, Belinda Mann (Morris), Janet Strayhorn (Harold), Lori Ware, Nina Burchfiel (Ryan); (6) sons, Eric Todd Ware, James Alvin Mosley, Jr. (Deanne), Grady James Battles, Terrell Walter Battles, Mark Mosley, Bryant Mosley; (32) grandchildren, (50) great-grandchildren; (3) sisters, Hattie Kincaid (Charles), Genova Hobson, Karen Taylor; (6) brothers, John W. Mosley (Barbara), Charlie Mosley, Gerald Mosley (Gladys), Danny Mosley, Joseph Mosley (Georgia), Thomas Mack Mosley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
