Chief Richard "Red" Barnes age 63 of Kenton, TN died September 2,2021 at his residence. Chief Barnes was a graduated of Dyer Co. High School were he played on the football team. He was graduated of Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy and served in law enforcement for over 40 years. He served as the senior Pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Newbern, TN. Arrangements are entrusted to McCreight Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 11:00a.m.-12:55p.m. at First Baptist Church in Newbern, TN. 114 West Main St. Newbern, TN. Funeral service will follow at 1:00p.m. with Bishop Bobby Nesbit officiating. Burial will be held in the M.C.C.O. Cemetery in Newbern, TN. serving as Pall bearers will be Burton Welch, Richard Mays, Roy Pugh, Bedford Taylor, Joey Millner, Clinton Brewer. Honorary Pallbearers will be the officers of the Newbern Police Department. Survivors include his wife Chief Shelia Wiggins Barnes, Kenton, TN., Daughters, Asentha Wilson, Dallas, Tx., Sherry Cox, Newbern, TN., Correan Potts, Ind., Sons, James (Brenda) White, Robert Lambert all of Jonesboro, Ark., Erick Kirk, Ind., Tony (Deborah) Lambert, Jackson, TN., Sisters, Daisy (Robert) Payne, Dyersburg, TN., Patty (Larry) Frier, Newbern, TN., Ollie B. (Robert) Livingston, Newbern, TN., Brothers, John (Shelia) Ive, Chester Frank all of Newbern, TN. 15 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren. Chief Barnes was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter, Tinisha Wiggins,(1) Grandchild, (1) Great grandchild, Sisters, Mae Katherine Holder, Linda Perkins, Myrtle Jenkins, Brother, Charles Mays.
